It is clear that celebrity chef, entrepreneur, and talented restaurateur Todd English opened Figs to offer each and every guest an authentic, mouthwatering pizza pie experience.  English is also well known for one of his trendy restaurants, Olives, located in Las Vegas, NYC and Boston.  You may have even spotted his delectable foodie adventures on his cooking show, Food Trip with Todd English.

Figs is one of Beacon Hill’s scrumptious gems, treating each and every guest like a gourmet foodie.  This casual but upscale venue houses two locations in the Greater Boston area, in addition to the stylish Beacon Hill community, the other Figs makes its home in Charlestown.  Figs’ unique, thin crust pizza pies are baked Neapolitan-style, prepared to ultimate perfection.  Figs also features gourmet salads, pasta dishes and tasty appetizers to start your meal off right.

A wise foodie once said that you could tell how good a venue will be depending on the bread they serve – a simple, but extremely critical part to every meal.  Bland bread will just not make the cut, and within the first bite you can tell the rest of the meal will follow in suit.  Figs’ focaccia-like bread will make your mouth water, served doughy and moist with garlic hints – as bread should be.

Joonbug scoped out the Beacon Hill location of Figs and completely fell in love.  What’s not to love about the antique Brownstones and chic restaurants/cafes located in Beacon Hill?  Figs itself is very quaint and truly adheres to the charm of Charles Street.

To start off our meal, we chose the Asparagus Frites, in addition to the Warm Bacon and Spinach Salad – two complete examples of culinary artistry and Joonbug favorites.  The Spinach Salad is prepared with warm, freshly tossed spinach, pieces of warm bacon, Parmesan cheese and topped off with vinaigrette dressing.  This salad truly encompasses the words decadent and delightful.  The Asparagus Frites are deliciously crispy and juicy.  We urge all to try.

The biggest decision of all comes down to the pizza.  We decided to order two pies, going half on each.  An array of delicious topping combinations, our first pie consisted of half Fig & Bresola with crispy rosemary crust, balsamic and fig jam, Bresola and Gorgonzola cheese; the other half was Spicy Chicken Sausage, consisting of chicken sausage, balsamic onion, ricotta cheese and tomato sauce.  Our second pie was halfBianco, made with mozzarella cheese, avocado, tomatoes, sweet onions, Evoo and balsamic; the other half consisted of Crispy Eggplant with sliced eggplant, tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil and whipped ricotta (yum).

Every pizza was unique and extremely delectable in its own way, but the Fig & Bresola pizza is without a doubt a true show stealer.  The combination of sweet fig jam with creamy Gorgonzola cheese and salty Bresola evokes a flavorful goodness unlike any other, certainly complementing all of the ingredients at work.
